Effie ‘Blanche’ (Dyment) Woodside 1933-35-41-48 Blanche was born, raised, and educated in Knutsford, the youngest of the three daughters of Margaret Ann (Boulter) Dyment and William Scott Dyment. After Blanche married Robert Woodside, they settled on their farm on the Smallwood Road, raising their children, Marguerite and Heath. During the late 1940s, the family moved to the present Woodside farm location, now operated by Norman Woodside, Heath’s son. Blanche was a major advocate for community service and a promoter of education, ensuring that all her family who wished to further their education had the support to do so. She was an avid letter writer, taking an interest in people and events both near and far. She embodied the principles of her Christian faith with life-long service to her church, especially as a member of the United Church Women’s group. Robert and Blanche, both loving music, performed in local variety programs and with the church choir. Like her mother before her, Blanche was skilled in many forms of needlecraft including knitting, crocheting, quilting and rug hooking. Happy hours were also spent in her flower garden with its wide selection of plants and trees. In October 1963, Blanche was presented with a WI lifetime membership and acknowledged as one of the Charter members of the Knutsford WI (inaugural meeting November 1928). 20
