Susie Irene Smallman 1990-1992 Susie Irene Sweet was born in Forest View on December 25, 1929, to Perry and Irene Sweet. She married Herman Smallman on July 21, 1950. Together they operated a very successful mixed farming operation in Knutsford. They had two daughters, Kathy (Stephen) Rogers and Karla (Warren) Maynard. They have five grandchildren: Maeghan and Karsten Rogers and Sarah, Mitchell and Kathy Anne Maynard. Besides working alongside Herman on the farm and raising two daughters, Susie enjoyed baking, gardening, cleaning, fashion, and going on shopping trips. She also cherished time spent with her grandchildren. In 1959, Susie joined the Knutsford Women’s Institute. During her membership, she was nominated in various positions including president, vice president, director and auditor. She also served on various committees including nominating, hospital and school. In 1980, she became a life member. Susie was also an active member of the O’ Leary United Baptist Church. At various times, she taught Sunday school and Baby Bend. She was also an active member of the Dorothy Duncan Women’s Missionary Society where she acted in various roles over the years and became a lifelong member. This group was very active in catering various functions. Susie was always willing to bake, prepare and serve on these occasions. Susie was a resident of Margaret Stewart Ellis Home in O’Leary until her passing on March 3, 2022. Written by her daughter, Kathy Rogers 39
