In 1948, a special event was held, and husbands were invited. Special guest speakers were Reverend Dickson, Reverend C.O. Howett, Dr. George Dewar, and Mr. Black. Six geese and six chickens were prepared by appointed committees and another committee overseen the main course and desert. Another event more suited for the entire community was three act play called “Pigtails” put on by the Women’s Institute members. It was performed at the O’Leary Hall, with musical entertainment and sale of candy between acts. Admission was 25 and 40 cents. The play also performed at the Cape Wolfe Hall with the sale of homemade ice cream. The success of these performances attests to the many volunteer hours put on by those talented ladies. Proceeds from plays were presented to the trustees to purchase new seats for the school. With the stipulation that the school committee be present when the seats were purchased. “Alone we can do so little, Together we can do so much” Helen Keller 98
