Betty Sweet reported registration for swimming lessons at the shore continues to rise. Last year, 30 children from Knutsford joined. She pointed out that a registration fee of $12 compared to actual cost of $40 per student meant they were getting a pretty good deal. The highlight of the evening was when Joan Smallman was presented with her Life Membership pin by Florence

MacDougall and Orell Smallman. The slate of officers were called in by Marion Luxton.

In October, Florence MacDougall graciously opened up her home for the regular monthly

meeting. Roll call was answered by a childhood memory.

It was noted that the front door had been repaired and no bill was expected. Notes and News items were read. Wood stove safety, home economic health, cultural activities, citizenship and legislation resource material were made available and when workshops would be held. International Affairs Convener included news on World Food Day on October 16. The theme this year will be Fisheries and Development. Food demonstrations will be held in O’Leary on November 5, 1986. There was also a letter from CNIB soliciting funds. The card committee

received a new catalogue and were prepared to take orders in good time for Christmas. The meeting closed with all members reciting the Lord’s Prayer in unison.

In November, at the regular meeting held at the school, the Mary Stewart Collect was recited by 17 members in attendance and roll call was answered with a joke. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Lorraine Harris moved, and Cora Smallman seconded, that

$25 be donated to the CNIB. Motion carried.

Each convener read their part in Notes and News concerning their particular convenorship. John Martin will speak on Home Care Support at our meeting if asked. The annual supper on October 29 was enjoyed with a very good attendance. A special vote of thanks was given to Wanda

Adams and Orell Smallman for looking after the school during the ceramic classes. They took

responsibility of opening and closing the school, tending to the fire, and general needs.

During the January regular meeting in 1987, there was an appeal from the Prince County Family Services Bureau for the institute to become involved with the bureau. The bureau was also requesting cash, food, or clothing to be discussed at another meeting. There was a bid to attend the Agriculture Conference March 5-6. There were terms of reference of Adelaide Hoodless

Award of Honor. Also, a mini conference was to be held at Mill River, May 11-13. Guest
