box was packed for David MacArthur, a member of the community who was in a serious accident. Boxes were packed and sent for two local men serving in Afghanistan. Two wedding showers and one birthday party was held at the community centre. The centre was given to the Red Cross Water Safety Program instructors for use as their headquarters during the two-week Water Safety Program at West Point beach. Halloween and Christmas parties were held at the community centre every year for the children of the district. In 2007, a granddaughter of a WI member received an education scholarship. A welcome home party hosted by the KWI was held at the O’Leary Legion in honour of Bailey Lidstone and Dwaine Coughlin, who returned home from service in Afghanistan. Donations were given to West Prince Music Festival and Rainbow Residence (local women’s shelter) and the Caring Cupboard; a fundraiser to buy a van equipped to transport a four-year-old child with cerebral palsy. A donation to A.C.W.W. to help children suffering from the effects of tsunami in India; and helped to support WI national projects such as Pennies for Friendship, International Peace Garden, and the Adelaide Hoodless Homestead. In November 2008, the KWI celebrated the 80 Anniversary of the organization at the G&E Restaurant with a hot turkey supper. Afterwards, they went to the community centre where community members and special guests gathered. President Joan Smallman welcomed all including Provincial WI board members, Carol MacLellan, president-elect, and Margie Stewart, past president. History of the past 80 years was prepared and read by Betty Sweet and minutes of the first meeting in 1928 was read by Wanda Adams. The anniversary cake was cut by Helen Adams, Silver Dennis and Marion Luxton with certificates in recognition of their 60-year membership in Knutsford WI. She also presented 80-year certificate commemorating to Home and Country. Speeches included MLA Robert Henderson, Marie Stewart, Past Provincial WI president, Beverly Molsini, Daisy Waite from O’Leary WI, and Heath Woodside, community member.
