take place February 26 and committee in charge will get together to write up the agenda. Barbara Sweet will buy candles and flowers for the memorial to be presented to Wanda MacNeill. After the memorial, Fairley Yeo will read a memorial poem. Signature Quilts will be taken to convention by provincial board members and will be KWI’s display. It was moved by Lorraine Harris and seconded by Harriet MacNeill that Verna Smallman and Isobel Harris be the executive members for the following year’s planning meeting for the Area 2 convention. The program was directed this meeting by Lorraine Harris. Joan Smallman had an interesting story on a woman’s life-long dream of going to space. The woman was disappointed when she wasn’t chosen to accompany the others on the space shuttle Challenger. She realized the wisdom of her father who said, “Everything happens for a reason,” when Challenger exploded just 73 seconds after blast off January 28, 1986. All seven astronauts were killed, including Christa McAuliffe. In March, Boyd Beck agreed to make another panel and assured the members there was room to display it. There was a request from Gena Yeo to use the centre for a book sale with proceeds to go the Love Rwanda project sale which would take place April 25. Spring is in the Air Gala Dinner was underway and Orell Smallman and Fairley Yeo will attend. A thank you note will be sent to Edna Gallant for nominating the KWI for a community volunteer award. A card of congratulations will be sent to Wendy Harris for bringing home the gold medal from the Masters World Winter Curling Games in Quebec City, and, to Sarah Woodside for participating in the Winter Games for hockey and Summer Games for softball. The KWI was not represented at the Spring is in the Air Gala dinner due to poor road conditions and they decided not to take part in the 100k sale. However, the community centre will be cleaned and ready for the book sale to support Rwanda aid efforts. Institute will sell coffee, tea, muffins, and fudge and bring items for tables to sell at the book/yard sale. Money made from yard sale items and refreshments would go to the KWI. Book sale money goes to Love Rwanda. It was moved and seconded by Lorraine and Isobel Harris that $20 be donated to the farm centre. Fellowship and refreshments were enjoyed by all after meeting in Verna Smallman’s beautiful dining room. Under unfinished business at the May meeting, the K WI decided to look into having a wheelchair ramp built. Fairley Yeo will contact Brenda O’Meara regarding this project. Betty Sweet will book their annual outing in June at the G&E Restaurant and contact Mary Quigley to be guest speaker. She was not able to attend due to illness. Special meetings were held beforehand in June to discuss
the wheelchair ramp and other renovations for the centre. Isobel Harris, Betty Sweet, Fairley
