HP" i 1' ',1 in the Sanctuary and Chancel, However, the congre¬ gation's resources were unequal to doing the same for the nave, so it was covered in a domestic -type vinyl tile. The window sashes had deteriorated, but instead of rebuilding them and preserving the old clear small-paned glass, everything was thrown out and opaque pebbled glass installed instead. One authority has said that this change in the windows more than any other single change affected the char¬ acter of Saint John's as a very old building. Today, however, Saint John's is being both mod¬ ernized and restored. The old library room on the south side of the chancel has been renovated as a choir vestry in memory of the late Roy and Mabel Tanton by their children. An old door from a house in St # Eleanor's built in 1850 has been used for a new entry into this room from the nave. The Ladies' Guild constructed two Sunday School rooms in the Gallery, and a three-light Georgian - style window was installed to admit light into these rooms from the nave.
