MacKAY, Charlotte Harris was born October 27th, 1916 — DeSable and . ~; is the daughter of the late Hector MacKay and Charlotte Harris Beer. i Charlotte's grandmother was a MacQuarrie and her grandfather, Donald MacKay. Her grandparents (great) were: Elizabeth Patterson 5

and John Beer.

Charlotte's siblings: Beatrice, Mary, Elsie, Catherine, Reta, i

w and a baby that died in infancy.

Charlotte's family settled in DeSable in 1818. The first owner of

" the MacKay property was Donald MacKay who immigrated from the Isle of Mull, Scotland in the year 1818 with his wife and a family of four. i They settled at the mouth of the DeSable River on 100 acres of woodland. i Donald died in 1855 at the age of 84 and the farm was devided between :

two sons, Hector on the homestead and Donald on the eastern portion.

Charlotte's father died in 1951 and his property, which included

the original 100 acres, was now jointly owned by his widow and

g , daughter Charlotte. After the death of Charlotte's mother, ; Charlotte received title to this land. g The MacKay farm had been in the same family for 169 years until it g was purchased by the present owner, George MacMillan, in 1973. g
