'The district had its first telephone service in 1915 when the Argyle « DeSable Rural Telephone

Company was formed.

Franklin K. Lane, born in DeSable in 1864, later rose to hieh eminence in Government of United States of America ending as Secretary of the Interior 1913 to 1920. This outstanding man was under consideration at one time by his party to run for President, but his birth as a British Subject made that prospect politically unsound.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE ~ The DeSable Women's Institnts was organised in 1948 with Helen Bell as President. Members were: Karen Petersen, Charlotte Macxey, Gwen MacKinnon, Kathleen Campbell, Mrs. Robert MacFadyen, Laura Walton. Doreen Shaw, Catherine Mac Nevin, Lottie Darts. Evelyn MacKinnon, Tens Gillie. Mrs. Walter Gould, Eva Inca, Ada Gould, Ethel Bell.
