Lane , born in DeSable in 1864, later rose to high eminence in Government of United States of America ending as Secretary of the Interior 1913 to 1920. This outstanding man was under consideration at one time by his party to run for President, but his birth as a British Subject made that prospect politically unsound. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE - The DeSable Women's Institute was organised in 1948 with Helen Bell as President .
