Fisherman, trapper and hunter, this man built boats whenever the spirit moved him; fishing boats, goose shooting boats for spring hunting, and dories. We
remember his ice boat sailing like a great bird
across the DeSable Harbour in winter. Material gain or strong drink meant nothing to him.yet, without thought of any wrong, he once put together one of
the most efficient stills ever to come to the attent-
ion of the R. C. M. P.
Seventy-five years ago, Brother 'Big Johnny' was
taking live recordings of local singers at home on blank cylinder records. He also repaired and cleaned clocks and watches and while he rested, which was -often, played Scottish reels and strathspeys on the accordian. His great love was a huge box camera complete with tripod which he lugged around the country
taking pictures of family, school and church groups.
These he developed with great skill at home and there
are many old pictures treasured today which are a
testimony, to this man, who was at least fifty years
