STATUES AND ORNAMENTS

Ornamentation of the interior proceeded during the tenure of Father Gauthier as the Spirit moved and money materialized. Collections were never large and Picnic income would slow down in poor years so individual donations were solicited. The statue of Ste. Anne, the focal point of the now traditional Nine Day Novena, was donated by Mrs. William Callaghan, widow of one of the original settlers at Miminegash. She died in 1937 at age 104. The statue of Ste. Theresa was donated by her son, WP. and Mrs. Callaghan. Another notable addition was the new bell donated by Peter and Marie Poirier of St. Louis, in 1929, in memory of his father, Norbert Poirier, who had just died. A letter in the parish records show the cost was $800. a large sum in 1929! The bell and statue were both dedicated on September 22, 1929 by Rev. G]. MacLellan of Tignish due to the final illness of Rev. EC. Gauthier. The beautiful Pieta, a copy of Michelangelo's at St.
