A Fellowship Group for adults was formed on October 13th, 1977. This group organizes various activities for its members and for the congregation. Two annual events hosted by this group under the direction of " Chief Chef " Brent Partridge , and much enjoyed by all, are the New Year's Eve Dinner and the Easter Sunday Breakfast. These two events have become a tradition at St. Mark's. (The first New Year's Eve meal was a pot-luck supper in 1982, followed by a full- course meal in 1983 and subsequent years. This group prepared their first Easter Breakfast in 1987.) An archivist was appointed in 1978, and Mrs. Beth Carleton took on this task. A highlight of 1978 was the visit in November of the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada , Dr. Jesse E . Bigelow , and his wife (parents of Rev. Cameron Bigelow ). On February 18th, 1979, a special service was held in the morning to mark the tenth anniversary of the dedication of the church building. Rev. Ian Glass , the first minister of St. Mark's, was the guest speaker. A song service took place that evening, with remarks by Mr. W. Blair MacDonald of the original Presbytery Survey Committee and by Mr. Millar MacFadyen — one of the Assessor Elders. On November 25th, 1979, a number of gifts to the church were dedicated: a Lectern Fall from the first Young People 's Group of St. Mark's with an additional gift from Richard Montigny ; a Bible for the lectern in memory of Heather Cameron from Mr. and Mrs. Keith Cameron ; and six hymn books. Two new elders were added to the Session in 1979 — Mrs. Maida Campbell by ordination, and Mr. Robert Adams , Sr., by admission. Mr. Adams is still active as an elder. Rev. Mr. Bigelow resigned on February 28th, 1981, to accept a call from Central Presbyterian Church in Brantford, Ontario . When Dr. Kao , General Secretary of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, was imprisoned by his government for his religious beliefs in 1981, the congregation of St. Mark's through its Missions and Outreach Committee lobbied the Canadian government and the President of Taiwan for his release and actively supported his family during the four years of his imprisonment. The congregation met on the evening of October 24th, 1982, to celebrate the burning of the mortgage on the church building — a happy and joyous occasion. A new church organ was dedicated at the morning service on the same date. 11
