remembered in the community today.1 But in the last number of years, St . Michael's, like many small country churches, has felt the pinch of economics. Now the priest from the larger parish of St . Joachim's in Vernon River also ministers to St . Michael's. Protestants in the community are scattered among several churches, but the largest and most dominant, both in terms of congregation size and architecture, is St. John's Presbyterian. The historic church was built in 1824, by Robert Jones , who emigrated to Prince Edward Island from Scotland in 1809. Though it has been modernized over the years, the basic structure and decor of the sanctuary remain largely unchanged. Not only did Father Phelan name the community, Iona, but in 1907 it was he who gave the name " Fodhla " - the poetic name for Ireland - to the railway station there.
