" Harry Coulson
Harry Coulson was one of five children born in Lower Montague to William C oulson of Western Prince County and Isabel Moore ofLower Montague. Following four trips to Western Canada on the harvest excursions, Harry settled in Pinette and he and his wzfe Annie Cantelo raised five children.
Harry was a lifelong horse and cattle trader, a seeker of opportunities. From his youth until his death, he worked to outwit his business associates, tried to “look for the best.” Despite his wiles, however, he was a community favourite and he remains the subject of affectionate reminis- cences.
I was out West four trips; Youngstown, Alberta. My Jesus, boys, boys, I was that mean when I was working, you know, I wouldn’t shave or nothing. I made a lot of money. Wait till I tell you.
I was coming home with two Newfoundland fellas. We was all dressed up, white collars and everything. I started shaking dice with them. Oh Jesus, I was rapping it in; my pockets was full. Wait till I tell you. I was saying to myself, “I’ll be a millionaire.”
You know what all I had when I got in town? Sons of whores cleaned me out. I only had seven or eight dollars. Christ, it sickened me for two years. A hard line boys.
I met Dr. McIntyre’s son in Montreal then. I says, “I’m going to get the Mounties.” He says, “You might as well whistle.”
Boys, oh boys, did it ever sicken me.
