     The Orwell Women's Institute would like to thank the many ' 
     
     people whose co-operation made this history possible. Wendell Boyle, 
     
     Director of Orwell Corner, made available to us their Guide Training 
     
     Manual and files of research concerning the 1895 period. He also 
     
     permitted us to use photographs owned by the site. Barb Morgan 
     
     reproduced these photographs. As well, Mr. Walter Auld, a retired 
     
     employee of the Island Telephone company and author of Voices of theIsland, 
     
     very generously shared results of his research into the history of the 
     
     Island's telephone system. The W.I. central office kindly supplied 
     
     material about the early days of Orwell W. I. Rita McKenna and Paula 
     
     MacKenzie typed the paper. Many other members of the community supplied
