Sewing Clubs and Red Cross Swimming Courses. Each winter Red Cross sewing and knitting are done, and quilts and used clothing packed for the Unitarian Service. This year the W.I. sponsored the UNICEF Hallowe’en program and each year prizes are donated to the Souris Exhibition. Women’s Institute pins have been presented to three of our members who have Completed 20 years or more in the organization. Senior citizens are remembered on various occasions with flowers, a birthday gift or a gift. Purchased a share in film projector, and find it a great asset to our program. Mrs. Stuart MacGregor, a former convener and Vice-Presid— ent of the Provincial Board is a member of this Institute, as is Mrs. Walter Dixon, our present Convener of Cultural activities. UIGG-KINROSS W. I. Organized November 19, 1923. A $25.00 prize received for plans for a rural home; a $25.00 award was won for war-work in a Canada~wide contest and $3.00 prize won in pro- gramme planning. Our Institute successfully campaigned for the ex— tension of power lines throughout the district, the hard surfacing of the highway and all night telephone service. Through the years the work for “Home and Country” has always been supported at local, district, provincial, national and international levels. ST. PETER’S LAKE. Organized November 27, 1931. Super- visor Miss Hazard. Officers: President, Mrs. Vernon Anderson; Vice- President, Miss Lily MacDonald; Secretary-Treasurer, Miss Lottie Rossiter. Main interest the erection of an extra room for their district school. This group disbanded, but reorganized in 1949. Of the orig- inal eleven who pioneered the W. 1., two are still members. FORTUNE ROAD, 1945 by Miss Mary MacDonald. Officers: President, Mrs. R. L. Burge; Secretary, Mrs. Fred Ross; Three Chart- er members. Chief concern was .for the school and were responsible for installing a toilet system, pump, electricity, radio, bookcase, cup- boards and many small items. Contributions are made to charitable organizations. School children given treats at Christmas and sick and shut-ins suitably remembered. An annual banquet is held every year and much enjoyed by the members. MORELL. Organized 1925 and incorporated in 1936. The lst three presidents were: Mrs. Wallade Anderson, Mrs. Henry Coffin and Mrs. Ambrose Steele. Community efforts: five thousand dollars contributed to- wards three-room school; prizes, scholarships and treats for stud- ents. Painting of interior and exterior of building. Winning of Rural Beautification prize two years, War work. Contributions to all wor- thy causes, Red Cross, T.B. League, Blood Donor Clinic, March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis, Retarded Children. When Bristol, England was bombed, a mammoth “Bristol Day” was held in Morell, sponsored bx the W.I. for which a cablegram “thank you” was received from the mayor of Bristol. r469...
