Women’s Institute Executive Serve Tea 5-for Royal Couple
»: * s
It was due to the wonderful work of local Women’s Institutes throughout our Province that .the Executive of our organization was accorded the honor of being presented and later serving afternoon tea to Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip on the occasion of the visit of Their Royal Highnesses to Prince Edward Island during the Canadian tour in 1951.
What a blustery fall day! But it was warm and comfortable in the Experimental Farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parent. Gorg- eous tea roses :and chrysanthemums brightened the living room where the presentations were made and of course all members of the Executive were “a-flutter”, for this was an outstanding event in their lives. ‘ ‘
1,-1F‘or one brief,"precious_ moment each had the individual at- tention of the Princess as they curtsied and shook hands, passing along to greet the Prince, the Lieut-Governor and Mrs. T. W. L. Prowse, Premier and Mrs. Jones, Hon. Robert and Mrs. Winters.
While the others were being presented, Mrs. Michael Doyle and Mrs. Malcolm MacLeod took their places at the dining room table which was covered with a hand made lace cloth. A bowl of snapdrag— ons and matching tapers in low candlesticks centered the table, and the dainty refreshments were a credit to the ladies who prepared them. Mrs. Harold Laird and Mrs. Murdock MacGowan served the Royal guests, and other members of the Executive assisted.
