James Edward and Annie first lived where Minnie Thomson lives in 1992, then where Stephen Thomson now lives, and later in a double house built by their son, Arthur. James Edward was a farmer and fox breeder. They were members of the Cape Traverse Free Church of
Scotland.

Arthur Dawson and Winnifred Muttart had no children. Winnie was a Charter Member of the North Tryon Women’s Institute. Winnie and Arthur built a double house in 1923 for themselves and Arthur’s parents,James Edward and Annie. This was the second house built by Arthur. The first house was destroyed by a grass fire just as it was completed. The wind carried live ashes from the fire to Archie Thom— son’s woods where they burned a ten acre area. This became known as the backfield on the Thomson farm. Glen and Arthur Thomson live in the Dawson house in 1992.
