Reg and Lottie moved to North Tryon in 1916 from Dixon’s Mills, DeSable, and bought the John T. Dawson property on the Crossroad. Here they began a mixed farming operation. The farm was comprised of two sections, each sixty five acres. The main field crops were potatoes, turnips, grain, and hay; with ten milk cows and several horses. One hundred hens, some pigs, and four or five horses were later added to the livestock. Most of the work on the farm was done by hand or with small machines. Potatoes were dug with a beater digger and picked into baskets, and hay was hoisted into the barn loft with a two—tine fork pulled by horses. All fields were small and fenced with barbed wire.
Reg and Lottie left the farm in 1941 and moved into a house across the road. This house had been built forJohn T. Dawson by his son, Roy. Sheldon Dixon had purchased this house, along with ten acres of land, in 1937 and sold it to Reg in 1940. Lottie lived in the house until 1983 when she moved to Sunset Lodge, Charlottetown. Vance Dixon owns this house in 1992 and it has been rented to Mary and Wyman Waddell,
