James settled in Kelly’s Cross where he was employed at Bradley’s General Store. They had 3 children: Percy Gordon b. 1897, d. 1947, m. Ruth Cameron; Phoebe Jane b. 1900, m. Howard MacLeod; Hazel Jane b. 1906, m. Leslie Edwards. In the 1891 census, James’ father, John, age 76, was living with James and Hannah.

John and Ann settled on the road to Mount Tryon, in an area referred to as No Man’s Land because the price of this land was very little. The Mount Tryon School was situated on part of their farm and
it shared a boundary with William Waddell. The 1891 census lists Ann, widow, farmer, assisted by her family. The family was Presbyterian.
John Hatley and Ann Todd had 9 children:
Robert b. 1861, bur. North Tryon Presbyterian Cem.. Upon the early death of his father, Robert took over the farm, but he died in early manhood from tuberculosis.
