John achieved his lifelong ambition in the election of 1834 when he won a seat in the provincial assembly as a representative of which, at that time, was one voting district with four members. John had been a captain in the 2nd. Battalion of the Militia, as well as ajustice of the Peace. In the 1798 census John was living with his father in Tryon . The PEI Militia General Order Book notes where John Lord was unable to assert authority and unable to order his men into company ranks. His name was struck from the roll of officers and he was subjected to a fine. A letter written by John's great grandson, dated 26 May 1892, states that John held 600 acres of land at Tryon which he later parcelled out to his sons, James, William Warren , and Joseph. He built the Tryon Hall and donated it to the community, and brought Irish settlers on his ships to setde Kelly's Cross. W.W . and Ann had no children, but adopted a nephew, Artemus.
