Mary Sharpe , b.c. 1796, d. 29 March 1857. Robert Muirhead is listed in the 1841 census as an adherent of the Church of Scotland, a farmer, a Justice of the Peace, and a commis¬ sioner for small debts. Five people living in his home were born in Scodand; himself, his wife Mary, sons William and John, and possibly a daughter; while 7 were born on PEI : 3 female and 2 male under 16; 3 female and 2 male between 16 and 45; 1 female and 1 male between 45 and 60. They settled on the southwest corner of the Crossroad. The land is now owned by Ingleside Farms. Robert's and Mary's obituaries tell us a little about them: Mary Sharpe Muirhead, d. Sunday 29 March 1857 at Tryon , after a protracted illness, which she bore with expiary patience and resignation to the divine will. Mary Sharp , wife of Robert Muirhead and a native of the parish ofTerregles, Dumfriesshire, age 61 yrs. She emigrated to this Island in the year 1820. Islander 29 March 1867- At Tryon on Thursday, the 14th. inst., Robert Muirhead Esq. in the 72nd. yr. of his age. He was a native of Dumfriesshire, Scotland , and resided at Tryon upwards of 40 years. He was much beloved and is universally regretted. He leaves 2 sons and 6 daughters to mourn this irreparable loss. It would seem that Robert divided his farm between sons, John and James. Daughters, Martha and Phoebe, operated a dry goods store, millinery shop, and post office, and John had a general store. Robert, along with Samuel Dawson of Tryon and John Clarke of Cape Traverse , was a Commissioner for the Trial of Small Debts. George Bynon was the clerk for the Commission, and they met the second Tuesday of each month. This information was found in the 1845 Island Almanac, which also states that Robert was a member of the House of Assembly for 3rd. Prince.
