David John became the owner of the farm in 1882. David had the present Thomson house, an ell-shaped eight room house, built in 1903. The lumber used in the house was taken from the woodlot on the fann and milled at Ives’ Saw Mill, including the finish, windows, doors, flooring, stair railing and posts. Herbert Thomas, the head carpenter, charged one hundred dollars for his labour and received in payment a plot of land on which he built a residence for himself. The Thomson house was wired for electricity in 1914 by Charles Ives and Billy Brander at a cost of one hundred dollars. This also paid for the wiring of the farm buildings which included the barn, piggery, well house, and shed. Major renovations were made to the house in 1947; the back stairs were removed and a north window was added, new cupboards were built in the kitchen by Maurice Cudmore and Bruce Gamble, and sinks and plumbing were installed by Morley Mullins.
