William Wood b. 1746, d. 4 May 1820, bur. Charlottetown Old Protestant Cem., son of Robert Wood and Elizabeth Carter, Essex, England, In. Prudence Smith, b. 1758, d. 19 Oct 1824, bur. Charlotte- town Old Protestant Cem., daughter ofJoseph Smith and Mary Wright, Derbyshire, England.
An adventurous band of English settlers sailed across the ocean on the vessel, Elizabeth, in November 1774 and eventually landed on the
north shore of the Isle de St.Jean. Among the passengers were William Wood and Prudence Smith. William, Prudence and their family lived and farmed at Squaw Bay, Alexandra. The Wood boys also built ships. This occupation may have been their chief interest for it was on the ship, The Seven Brothers, that two brothers,Joseph andJohn, lost their lives.
