James b. 18 Nov 1814, d. 9June 1871, son of Joseph Wood and Elizabeth Dawson, m. 29 June 1840 Louisa Burke, b. 5 Aug 1822, d. 3 Oct 1901, daughter of Edward/ Edmund Burke and Ellender Jet- son/Judson.

James purchased a 100 acre farm in July 1852 for 36 shillings at a sheriff’s sale. The farms ofJames and his brother William were opposite each other on the road leading to Mount Tryon.

James Wood and Louisa Burke had 7 children:

John Burke b. 4 Aug 1842, d. 29 Sept 1923, m. Ellen Rayner, b. 16 Jan 1853, d. lJune 1936, daughter ofJoseph Rayner andJanet Sharpe. They had 6 children and farmed the property in Mount Tryon now owned by their great grandson Morley Wood.
