George I’IacIntyre, I don‘t know whether he really wanted the money or what, but he borroWed fifty

or seventy-five dollars off me. I had a little extra money, I used to be working in the lumber- woods. He said he wanted‘it to give a few dollars to the crew for the social and he was trying to keep everyone sober. Fishing was getting slack and Joe and I were having it pretty tigh ... I

took some rum up to the some]. and I gave Joe some rum and got him pretty well set up. We went out

the line and Joe came over and came back with a gallon jar. We started pouring the rum to Joe and then he comes, Jack Burke, six got tied on. Someone let the line- go, a whole line fishing then. A lovely fine day. The six boats, the young fellas up dancin and jiggin. We drifted down past the East Point fac— tory and George out swearing with six boats joined by and we went down the South side and stayed there talking and arguing and drinking at last the tide turned and back we came around the Point again. The old god damn bunch broke up and made for shore. George got'no fish from us that day. Barney was dancin and Joe I suppose he had about twenty pounds or so in. lobster. What lobsters there were he had them all tramped... They thought that I had. done it on purpose. I suppose it was half on purpose too! He was so mad that they weren‘t going to, He was afraid they'd start drinkin and the factory would 73 be shut down for the day. We spoiled his plans.

I was fishing for Bar}: the next spring and they

(the authorities) went down there half a dozen

times. rJ.‘hey came into the cookhouse one night with

a flashlight but I didn't happen to be there. I was

up at Charlie Dan's... They used to come to the fac— tory and wait there but one time I was putting my lobsters ashore and I got someone else to take over... When they'd leave, some of the boys would hang a

shirt up a tree to let us know all clear. I think Earl made a kind of a bargain with them not to come back lookin for me till fishin was over. |Ilhey wanted,” to serve papers on me to stand trial.

(He was being charged with rum running).

They were always visiting back and forth. Alfie was fishing down here. Percy would always be down there

every week or two for a night telling ghost stories- Alfie of course would never believe in these ghosts
