     Fort Augustus, Vernon River, Saint Peter’s Bay, Souris, and 
     
     elsewhere. By the latest census returns, there were 266 
     
     churches, of which 85 were Presbyterian, 68 Methodist, 43 
     
     Roman Catholic, 42 Baptist, 21 Anglican, and 7 belonging to 
     
     other bodies. The number of clergymen was 122. The 
     
     Roman Catholic diocese of Prince Edward island includes. 
     
     the Magdalen Islands, and the seat of the diocese is at 
     
     Charlottetown. Authority over the spiritual affairs of the 
     
     Church of England is exercised by the Bishop of Nova Scotia. 
     
     The inhabitants are engaged principally in agriculture; but 
     
     some attention is devoted to fisheries and to the breeding of
