FISH AND GAME LAWS

6H}: Dominion and Provincial Parliaments have passed laws to prevent the wanton destruction of fish and game, and for the establishment of close seasons.

The Dominion trout-fishing regulations are as follows:

“In the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, no one shall fish for, catch, kill, buy, sell or possess any speckled trout, salmon trout, gray trout, white trout, lake trout, winanish, toag, land-locked salmon, or any other kind of trout, from the first day of October to the thirty-first day of March in each year, both days inclusive."

The close seasons for the following fish are :

SALMON—From September first to December thirty-first.

OYSTERS.~From May twenty-first to September twenty-second.

LOBSTERS.~.From West Point to Cape Traverse,—From August eleventh to May twenty-fourth. On the rest of the Island coast,— From July eleventh to April nineteenth.

SMELTS.#From April first to july first. For bag-nets (only allowed under license) from February sixteenth to November thirtieth.

In all the above both days are included.

No person shall throw or allow to drift into any stream frequented by fish any deleterious substance, sawdust or mill rubbish.

Fishing through the ice for trout only permitted during the open season, and then only under special permit, issued by the Minister of Marine and Fisheries, on the express condition that the trout caught shall be for domestic use only, and shall not be sold.

No one shall receive, ship or transport or have in possession for the purpose of shipping or transporting out of the Dominion of Canada any trout taken or caught in the Province.

There are no other government restrictions, but on some streams parties hold fishing leases. Further information can be obtained from the resident fishery officers.

Sec. 3. Everyone is guilty of an offence and liable to a penalty of not exceeding $25.00 nor less than $1.00 who hunts, takes or kills, at— tempts to take or kill, buys, sells or offers for sale, whether dead or alive, any of the birds or animals hereinafter mentioned, within the following periods :
