A. F. Larkin , an enterprising and pros¬ perous lobster packer at Tignish , was born at Alberton (then called Cascumpec ), Prince Edward Island , on January 17, 1845, and is a son of Alex and Flora (Mathieson) Larkin, the former born at White Haven, England , in 1819, and the latter born in 1817. The father came to Prince Edward Island in his youth and settled at Alberton with his parents. His father, Francis Lar ¬ kin. though born in Ireland, had been a resident of England before his emigration to this province. To Alex and Flora Lar ¬ kin were born the following children, namely: William S., A. F ., James, Henry, Lemuel, Fred, Christina, Catherine and Minnie. The father of these children fol¬ lowed the trade of blacksmithing during his active years, also carried on a fishing and general business, and is now living at.a ripe old age, at Alberton . The subject of this sketch received a good district school education and has fol¬ lowed farming for a number of years. He and his son own about four hundred acres of land, a part of which they have highly improved and which is considered one of the best farms in this locality. The subject also engages in fishing, and is the owner of a lobster factory at , and to¬ gether with his son, has an extensive fishing place called Black Marsh. His lobster fac¬ tories are among the largest on the Island, comprising ten thousand traps which sup¬ ply two large lobster packing houses. Mr. Larkin, with his son, is also the owner of one of the largest peat marshes on the Island. On September 25, 1868, Mr. Larkin married Miss Eliza Clark , a daughter of James and Eliza (Bell) Clark, of New Lon¬ don, Prince Edward Island , her father be¬ ing descended from refugees from the United States during the war of the Revo¬ lution. To Mr. and Mrs. Larkin have been born the following children: John G., de¬ ceased; Hugh J., living at ; William, a farmer at Montrose , Prince Ed ¬ ward Island; George A., who died in in¬ fancy ; Catherine, the wife of W. G. Crock ¬ ett, a jeweler in the state of Washington; Lucy A., deceased; Flora J., the wife of H. Melville Compton , a rancher and dairy¬ man at , Canada ; Miza, em¬ ployed in an insurance office at Charlotte - town; Mary B., the wife of William Mc- Kie, who is manager of a bank at Alberton , and Eliza Bell , in the state of Washington. In politics Mr. Larkin supports the Con¬ servative party, in religion he is a member of the Presbyterian church, while frater¬ nally his relations are with the Masonic or¬ der. He is energetic and public spirited and gives a hearty support to every movement that promises to benefit the community in any way. He possesses many pleasing char¬ acteristics that have won him the friendship and good will of all who know him. James A. Macmillan , a prosperous farmer in Lot 6 2, was born at Wood Is ¬ lands, Queens county, Prince Edward Is ¬ land, on February 2, 1823.
