In politics Mr. Campbell supports the Liberal party, though not an aspirant for public office, and in religion is an active member of the Presby- terian church. He is a man of sound judg— ment and his many good qualities have com- mended him to the esteem of his fellow citi- zens.

WILLIAM MOFFATT, who occupies a high standing among the enterprising farm- ers of Lot 23, was born on the old home- stead in this lot, on November 5, 1849, and is a son of James and Jane (Arthur) Mof— ‘fatt, natives of Scotland. James Mofiatt was reared under the parental roof, secured a district school education and is now a well 'known farmer in this lot, owning one hun- dred and thirty-three acres of land. In poli- tics he is a Liberal, and in religion a Pres- ‘byterian. To him and his wife were born six children, namely: William, James. Arte- mas, Mary, Margaret and Janie.

The subject of this sketch received a good, practical district school education and upon taking up life’s duties entered upon a farming career, in which he has been suc- cessful. He is now the owner of one hundred and twelve acres of splendid farm land, of which ninety acres are under the plow, and here he carries on a diversified system of farming. McRae, Sydney, Cape Breton; Bruce, on the home- stead; Luther, a merchant at Sidney; Mag- gie N., at home; John, who is associated with his brother, Luther, in the mercantile business at Sidney; Robert, at Amherst, where he is learning the trade of pattern maker; Davis and Ruth are at home. In politics Mr. Moffatt supports the Liberal party, and in religion he is a Presbyterian. He has long enjoyed a high standing in his community and during the last six years has capably served as magistrate. His fine per~ sonal qualities have commended him to the good opinion of those with whom he comes in contact and he enjoys the friendship of all.

WILLIAM D. WHITEHEAD was born in Lot 20, Queens county, on the farm which he now operates, his natal day being May 10, 1846. His parents were William, and Rebecca (Powers) Whitehead, the father having been a native of Bannockburn, Ster— lingshire, Scotland, where he was born in 1800, and the mother a native of this Island born in 1809 at Sea View and of Irish par- entage.
