PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND.
Scotia, was born at Murray Harbour, on October 16, 1862, and married Miss Ada A. Fraser, a daughter of Capt.James A. Fraser. of Pictou, Nova Scotia. Another brother. Samuel W. Prowse, now a successful physi- cian at Winnipeg, Manitoba, was born on August 25, 1869, and married Miss Cath- erine Smith, of Collingwood, Scotland.
MURDOCK G. ANDERSON, the well known miller and a leading citizen of Lot 57, Queens county, is a native of this locality, born in April, 1854, and received his educan tion in the public schools here. He has been operating mills here during the past thirty years and during all this time has enjoyed . an enviable reputation for the excellence of his products and the degree of fairness and honour which has characterized his dealings. The business embraces a saw and grist mill, the latter being thoroughly up-to—date in equipment and having a capacity of six bushels per hour. The saw mill also em- braces a complete equipment of wood- working machinery for the production of sash, doors, frames, etc., and in both lines Mr. Anderson has enjoyed a large patron- age. He is also engaged in the operation of a part of the old homestead farm formerly owned by his grandfather and has been equally successful in this line. The place is eligibly located and is numbered among the valuable farms of the locality. Mr. Ander- son renders a hearty support to the Conserva- tive party in political matters, and his reli- gious membership is with the St. John’s Presbyterian church. Mr. Anderson has thrice been married. He first married Miss Margaret A. Murchison, who died, leaving one child, Margaret Ann. He subsequently

married Miss Anna Bell McMillan, daughter of Neil McMillan, of Wood Islands, who died leaving one son, Robert Alexander. Mr. Anderson afterward married Miss Christina Bell, of Wood Island.
The subject’s parents were Alex and Mary (Gillies) Anderson. The former was born at Dunstaffnage, Lot 35, and about sixty years ago built the mills now owned and operated by the subject. His death occurred in 1873, at the age of sixty-four years. He was a Liberal in politics. His wife was a daughter of Alex and Flora (McQueen) Gillies, the former having come from the Isle of Skye, Scotland, to Prince Edward Island in 1819. To Alex and Mary Anderson were born the following children: Capt. James, deceased; Alex, of Brush Wharf, Lot 57; Daniel J.; Peter; John; Murdock and Robert; and two daughters, Isabella, now Mrs. M. Finlayson, Eldon, and» F10ra Ann, now Mrs. H. Smith, of New Bedford, Massachusetts. The paternal grandfather, Alex Anderson, Sr., came to Prince Edward Island from Perth, Scotland, in about 1819 and located at Orwell Cove, Lot 57, where he obtained a good farm, part of which is that now owned by the subject of this sketch. Alex Anderson, Sr., married Miss Isabella McDougall, a native also of Perth, Scotland, and they became
the parents of three sons, Alex, James and John.
AUGUSTINE J. MCLELLAN, who has since 1899 conducted a successful mercan- tile business at Richmond, Prince county, was born at Indian River, Lot 18, and is a son of Donald and Catherine (McLellan) McLellan. The father was born in Lot 14, this Island, but subsequently removed to
