He married Miss Mary Magadelen Ford, a daughter of Charles Ford, who came to East Point with a Mr. Peebles, the first settler at that place. To the subject and his wife have been born the following chil- dren: Maggie, who is in Boston, Massa- chusetts; Daniel; Katie; Mamie; Angus; James; Josephine; Percival; Ellen and “lil- liam, twins; and Beatrice. The family are members of the St. Columbo Roman Catholic church and are highly esteemed in their community. ‘

JAMES CAMPBELL, deceased, who, during his lifetime was a leading citizen and success- ful business man at Poplar Pond, King's county, was born on the old homestead where his widow and surviving members of the family now reside and where his death oc- curred in September, 1891, at the age of fifty-eight years. He received his education in the district schools of the neighborhood and was reared to the life of a farmer, which calling he followed throughout his active years. His father, Alex Campbell, who was born at Johnson’s River, Prince Edward Island, in 1788, came to Lot 55 in young manhood and settled on the old homestead, which was at that time densely covered with fine timber and which it was necessary to remove from the land before the soil could be put to cultivation. This was one of the first clearings made in the Poplar Pond settle- ment and eventually became one of the most attractive and productive homesteads in that locality. Mr. Campbell died in 1876, at the age of eighty-eight years. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine McPherson, who was born in southwestern Scotland and who came to Prince Edward Island with her par- ents, Angus and Rachael (Campbell) Mc-

Pherson, and settled at Launching Place, Kings county. To Mr. and Mrs. Campbell were born the following children : James, the subject of this sketch; John, of Poplar Pond, Kings county, now deceased; Hughie, of Cumberland Hill, Kings county; Joseph, of Boston, Massachusetts; Peter, of Newport, this Province; Michael, of Poplar Pond, Kings county: Neil, Of Upton; Mary, the wife of John McDonald, of Poplar Pond; Flora, now Mrs. John Campbell, of Dundas, Kings county.

The subject of this sketch attended the district schools in his boyhood and was reared to the life of a farmer, which vocation he has continuously followed throughout life. He has followed in his father’s foot- steps and has maintained the old homestead . at a high standard of excellence, being now considered one of the leading farmers of his locality.

Mr. Campbell married Miss Helen Walker, a daughter of John and Sarah (Mc— Donald) Walker, of Launching Place, Lot 56, Prince Edward Island, and to them were born the following children, namely: Mi- chael, deceased; Katherine Mary became the - wife of John W. Campbell, of Poplar Pond; Belle, who lives in the United States; Mag- gie, the wife of Patrick McIntyre, of Cardi- gan Bridge; Minnie, the wife of Jerome Mc- Lean, of Grosmarsh; John, of Poplar Pond; Alex, now residing on the old homestead; Joseph, Felix and Ella, at home.

John Walker was born at Launching Place, spent his entire life there and died in 1880, at the age of eighty-six years. To him and his wife were born the following chil- dren: Helen, wife of the subject of this sketch; Ronald, a successful merchant. and who represented Kings county in the Legis— lature; Donald J., of Launching Place;
