On August 21, 1871, Mr. Murphy was married to Miss Mary Smith, a daughter of George Aberdeen Smith, of Aberdeen, Scotland, and to them have been born ten children: Michael P., Wellington Joseph, Estella, Ella (deceased), Seymour, Flossie, Mary, Lovina, Thomas Alfred and Annie. In politics Mr. Murphy supports the Liberal Conservative party and in reli- gion he is a consistent member of the Cath-

olic church.

DUGALD CURRIE, a successful and enter- prising farmer in Lot 65, Queens county, was born on the place on which [he now resides on August 22, 1844, and is a son of Malcolm and Catherine (Bell) Currie. Mal- colm Currie was a native of Collins, Scot- land, where he received his education and there followed the occupation of gardening, having been for a number of years in the employ of~the Laird of Collins. He also learned the trade of shoemaking. Emigrat- ing to America, he located first at Pictou, Nova Scotia, but subsequently came to Prince Edward Island and located on the subject’s present farm in Lot 65. Here he took up farming, at which he was success- ful and stood high in the estimation of his fellow citizens. He married Miss Catherine Bell, also a native of Scotland, and to this union were born eight children, five of whom reached maturity, namely: Donald, deceased, formerly a collector of customs; Malcolm, deceased; Dugald ; Neil, a resident of this Island, and Jessie, now Mrs. Ross (deceased). Malcolm Currie was a mem- ber of the Presbyterian church and in poli- tics supported the old Tory party.

PAST AND PRESENT OF

The subject of this sketch received a good district school education, and upon attaining mature years took up farming, which he has since followed. He is the owner of about one hundred acres of land, all of which is under cultivation and well improved. He is practical and progressive in his methods and stands among the lead— ing agriculturists of his community. Mr. Currie married Miss Maria Burdett, a daughter of the late Richard Burdett, for many years a justice of the peace, and to them have been born the following children: Nelson Wellington; Katie Ernestine, de- ceased, who was the wife of Robert McNeil; Edward Austin; Sophia Elizabeth, who became the wife of Daniel Taylor; Mal— colm Ernest; Brenton, who was formerly a school teacher but now resides in Boston, Massachusetts; Irene, a teacher, and Florence, at home. In politics Mr. Currie supports the Conservative party and for two years was a member of the Legislative Assembly for the second district of Queens county. In religion he is a Presbyterian and gives his support to all movements calcu- lated to advance the best interests of the community.

ARTHUR WRIGHT, a leading farmer of Lot 65, was born on his present homestead on January 6, 1854. His paternal grand- father, Hon. George Wright, was a native of England and came to Prince Edward Island in an early day. He married Miss Phoebe Cambridge, also of English birth. George Wright was a member of the Eng- lish church. His son Thomas, subject's father, was born in Prince Edward Island, here educated and here he followed farming throughout his life, being also a landlord.
