he was but thirty-two years old. Emily L, who resides in Santiago, California, is the widow of W. J. Miller, who was a member of the firm of Miller Brothers at Charlotte- town and who died in December, 1903. Alice I. resides in Charlottetown. Annie M. is the wife of G. Frank Beer, a son of the late John Beer, of Charlottetown, now residing in Toronto.

The subject of this sketch spent his school days in Charlottetown, receiving a good public school education, supplementing this by attendance at Prince of Wales 'Col- lege and McGill University, where he was graduated in 1881, taking honors in mathe- matics. He then returned to Charlottetown and entered the law firm of Peters & Peters, with whom he studied the required period, and in 1885 was admitted to the bar. At this time, owing to his brother’s ill health, he entered the Prothonotary’s office, the du- ties of which he continued to discharge af- ter his brother‘s death until 1901. He then formed a professional association with Mr. Whear under the firm name of Weeks & Whear, which relationship was maintained until February, 1904, when Mr. Whear was appointed postmaster at Charlottetown, which compelled his withdrawal from the firm, since which time Mr. Weeks has contin- ued the practice of law alone. He has a thor- ough knowledge of the law and has achieved a distinctive success in his calling. In 1881 he enlisted in the Charlottetown Engineers, with whom he remained until 1901. In 1885 he was appointed lieutenant and then took a course in the Royal Military College, at Kingston, Ontario, and upon his return was appointed captain of his company, remain- ing in command of the Engineers until 1902. In 1899, he was appointed chief of staff to General Hutton, during the camp at Al-

dershot, Nova Scotia. He is well grounded in military knowledge and is held in high esteem by his} brother officers and has had a marked influence in maintaining the high standard of proficiency for which the local militia has borne so'excellent a reputation. He is well liked personally and enjoys the

confidence and esteem of the entire com-. munity.

JOHN FORBES MACNEILL, M. D., a well known and'popular physician of Summer— side, is a native son of Prince Edward Island, having been born at West River, Queens county, on May 11, 1870, and is the eighth child in order of birth of his parents, John Alexander and Catherine (McKenzie) Mac- Neill. He received his elementary education in the district schools and then entered Prince of Wales College. Upon leaving that institution he engaged in the drug business with Doctor Darrach, of Kensington, with whom he remained five years. He then formed a partnership with E. W. Manson, they engaging in the drug business at Sum- merside under the firm name of Manson & MacNeill. A year later Mr. MacNei-ll bought his partner’s interest in the business and moved to Montague Bridge, where he continued the business three years, at the end of which time he sold out. Having de- cided to take up the medical profession, the subject then entered the medical department of McGill University, where he graduated with the class of 1902. Returning then to Summerside, he cared for his brother’s prac- tice during the latter’s absence in London when he came back engaged in the practice on his own account, in which he has since been successfully occupied, enjoying now a. large and constantly increasing business.
