William Leslie is now residing on the old homestead at Souris and now (1905.) at the age of eighty-two years is resting in the enjoyment of the fruits of his former toil and with the knowledge that he has lived so as to merit the popular confidence and esteem which is now his. He is a Conservative in politics. The sub- ject’s mother is a daughter of Big Donald and Elizabeth (McIntyre) McDonald, the former a native of Lot 45 and the latter of Mt. Stewart. Donald McDonald was one of the first settlers in his locality and is of the line of the clan Ronald. To Wil- liam and Margaret Leslie were born the fol- lowing children: George, a farmer in Lot 45: Norman. who was a member of the po- lice force at Montreal, but is now living at Loon Creek, Assiniboia, Northwestern Territory; the subject of this sketch is next in order of birth; William is a farmer in Lot 45; the next in order of birth is Lieu- tenant Joshua, of Loon Creek, Assiniboia, North West TerritOry. who was formerly a resident of Lot 45, and lieutenant in the Fourth Company. Fourth Regiment, Artil- lery, and who served in the First Royal Canadian Regiment in South Africa. He saw much hard service and was at the cap- ture of Conje, at Predersburg. He was in the first line, within fifteen yards of the Boer trenches when the first volley was fired; Jane is the wife of James Buney, of Loon Creek, Assiniboia; Elizabeth Annie is the wife of Michael Dyer, who now conducts a store at Loon Creek; Catherine, deceased, was a well known teacher in Kings county; Augusta is the wife of John Meekam, of

The subject of this sketch was given a good practical education in the district schools and was reared to the life of a farmer and lobster packer, which pursuit he has fol- lowed throughout his active years. His' place is well improved and ranks among the attractive and productive homesteads of the locality. His lobster factory is situated at Campbell’s Cove, and is one of the best fishing stands in eastern Kings county. At the time of the Reil rebellion in 1885 Mr. Leslie joined the Prince Edward Is— land militia and has been an active member ever since. In 1889 he was commissioned lieutenant and attended the Royal Military School in Quebec. Upon the completion of his studies there in 1895 he was commis- sioned captain of the Fourth Company. Fourth Regiment, Prince Edward Island Artillery, and in 1905 was promoted to the rank of major. which position he now occupies.

He married Miss Mary Rice, of Fairfield, a daughter of Michael and Sarah (McIn- tyre) Rice. and to them were born two children, Norman and Catherine Violet.

WILLIAM J. MONTGOMERY, who is en— gaged in the operation of a fine farm in Lot 13, and who occupies the responsible positions of clerk of the county court and collector of customs. was born on the farm on which he now resides and received his education in the district school of this 10- cality.
