His son George was educated in the schools of Pownal, and then learned the

lowed for nearly thirty years, while during the past eighteen years he has conducted on his own account a general mercantile business at Pownal in which he has achieved a definite and gratifying degree of success. He also operates a hotel there and in this connection is an employe of the Intema- tional Harvester Company and the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, representing in an able and satisfactory manner the interests of these corporations on the Island. His dealings with the public have been characterized by. the strictest integrity and he has at all times borne him- self in such a manner as to win the respect and friendship of all with whom he comes in contact. On August 12, 1882, Mr. Car- ver married Miss Johanna Lovina Morton Gay, a daughter of Robert Gay of Pownal, and to them have been born two children: Lona Lube], of Prince Albert, Northwest Territory, and Pearl, at home. In politics Mr. Carver gives an ardent support to the Liberal party, and during the past six years has held the office of tax collector. In re- ligion he is a Methodist, and his fraternal relations are with the Independent Order of Foresters.

JAMES T. COLLINS, M. D., a leading and successful physician of Lot 50, was born at North River, Prince Edward Island on No vember I, 1867. His paternal grandfather,

Daniel Collins, was a native of County Tip- perary, Ireland, where he was educated and took up the vocation of farming. In 1803 he emigrated to Prince Edward Island, 10- cating at North River, where he followed farming during the remainder of his life. He married in his native land and became the father of ten children. He was a mem- ber of the Catholic church and a Conserva- tive in politics. Jeremiah Collins, the father of the subject, was born at North River on March I, 1818, and received his educa- tion in the district schools of that neighbor- hood. He was reared to the life of a farmer and followed that vocation up to the time of his death, which occurred on January 30, 1905. In politics he was a Conservative and in religion a faithful member of the Catholic church. He married Miss Ellen Kennedy, a daughter of Captain Kennedy, of St. Pet- er’s Bay, and to them were born nine chil- dren, namely: Elizabeth; Ambrose, who married Elizabeth Murphy; Sarah, who be- came the wife of a Mr. McElroy, of New Haven; Peter, who died in infancy; Daniel, who married Miss Ellen Dugan; John, who married Miss Annie Hines; Annie, now de- ceased, who was the wife of James Wisner; Margaret, the wife of Alfred Hines, and James T. The mother of these children is still living at North River.

James T. Collins received his elementary education in the schools of North River and Charlottetown and in 1889 he entered the Detroit Medical College at Detroit, Michi-' gan, graduating in 1891 with the degrees of LL. D. and M. L. S. He returned to Prince Edward Island immediately upon completing his professional education and for one year engaged in practice at Char- lottetown, at the end of ‘which period he located at Vernon River, where he has since
