He was a blacksmith and followed his trade successfully for many years, and owns a well cultivated and highly productive farm. In 1897 Mr. Kickham was elected a member of the Provincial As¬ sembly and was re-elected in 1900 and 1904. thus having served three terms as repre¬ sentative of the first district of Kings coun¬ ty. He supports the Conservative party and in the Legislature took an active part in the promotion of all commendable measures be¬ fore that body. Mr. Kickham married twice, the first time with Miss Catherine McLean , a sister of Hon . J. R. McLean . They had five chil¬ dren, of whom two are living. His second marriage was with Miss Mary Macdonald . a daughter of Capt. Angus Macdonald . Thomas Kickham , of Souris West , Kings county, where he is successfully en¬ gaged in the general mercantile business, began active business life in this place when a buy. being employed in the store of his father, Edward Kickham , who entered upon mercantile pursuits at Souris in 1849. Eel- ward Kickman came from Charlottetown to Souris in 1851, having prior to that time engaged in teaching school. He was born in County Tipperary , Ireland, in 1805, and came to Prince Edward Island about 1830, receiving his education here. He was a member of the Provincial Legislature for the first district of Kings county in 1863. He also engaged in ship building successfully at Souris West and in addition owned several large farms which he operated successfully. He was a member of the Rollobay Roman Catholic church. His wife bore the maiden name of Mary Breathett , and was, like him- A. self, a native of County Tipperary , Ireland. Edward Kickham died at the advanced age of eighty-six years. Thomas Kickham began business on his own account in 1880 and has been very suc¬ cessful. In connection with general mer¬ chandising he also engaged extensively in the coastwise trade, building a number of vessels. He operates two lobster canning factories in Kings county and is considered one of the leading business men of the dis¬ trict. He is an active Liberal in politics and represented the first district in the Legis¬ lature from 1886 to 1903, and was a strong supporter of his party in local affairs. He served capably as postmaster at Souris West for sixteen years. His religious affili¬ ation is with the Rollobay Roman Catholic church. He married Miss Charlotte Burk , a daughter of Richard Burk , a native of this Island, who was for many years a ship builder at Souris West . Richard Charles Lea , one of the lead¬ ing farmers and representative citizens of Lot 28, Prince county, was born at Tryon , Prince Edward Island , on July 28, 1835, and is a son of William and Elizabeth (Leard) Lea. The paternal grandfather, Richard Lea , who was a native of Lanca¬ shire, England , came to Prince Edward Is ¬ land in 1800 and located at Tryon , where, during the remainder of his life, he followed agricultural pursuits, in which he was suc¬ cessful, enjoying also the respect of the com¬ munity in which he lived.
