To his union with Miss Jessie Currie, also a native of Scotland, were born the follow- ing children: Christopher; Donald, father of the subject; James; John; Allan; Sarah, the wife of Duncan Patterson; Margaret, the wife of Jonathan Burt; Dorothy, the wife of William Mac Mannell, and Jane, the wife of Archibald Mac Cannell. The father of these children was a faithful mem- ber of the Presbyterian church. He and his wife are both deceased, the latter dying in 1867. Donald Mac Lean, who was born on the old homestead here, was educated in the common schools and throughout his life fol- lowed the vocation of farming. He married Miss Sarah Currie, a daughter of Donald Currie, and this union was blessed with the following children: Alexander, who died in Boston; John, a merchant of Souris; .Dan- iel, subject of this sketch; Elizabeth, the wife of Edward Jay, of Mount Stewart; Mary Jane, who died in infancy; HectOr, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Mary, Jane (second), the wife of Charles H. Sterms, of Souris; Archibald, deceased; and Dun- can, of Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a Presbyterian in religious belief, a Liberal in politics and fraternally a member of the Orange Society. His death occurred in 1892 and his wife passed away on July Ist of the following year.

tary education in the public schools and then entered Prince of Wales College. where he was graduated in 1866. During the follow- ing fifteen years he was engaged in teach- ing school and then began a theological course at Pine Hill College, Halifax, where he was graduated in 1894, and soon after was ordained a minister of the Church of Scotland. Since that time he has resided at Mount Herbert, where he has efficiently

served as a minister of the kirk, not only in his own neighbourhood, but at four other churches in his parish. In connection with his ministerial duties he also operates a farm of one hundred and thirty-four acres, about one hundred of which are under culti- vation and well improved. He gives wre- ful supervision to every detail of the enter- prise, the actual labour being performed by hired help. Mr. Mac Lean is a well edu- cated man and eloquent and impressive pul- pit speaker.. He has been the means of grad- ually strengthening the church of which he is a member. both numerically and spirit- ually. He is a man of many fine qualities and has endeared himself to all the mem- bers of the parish. On March 19, 1879, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Booyer, a daughter of John Booyer, of Bun- bury, and to them were born four children: John Lester, deceased; Archibald Goodwill, a clerk at Bridgetown; Henry B., vice-prin- cipal of Mac Donald Consolidated Schools, and Minnie Kezia. Mrs. Emma Mac Lean died on July 18, 1895, and on June 6, 1900, Mr. Mac Lean married Miss Mary Jane McFadyen, a daughter of Neil McFadyen, a well known school teacher and farmer of Augustine Cove. To this union have been born three children, Neil Daniel, Ruth and Muriel. In politics Mr. Mac Lean is a Lib- eral and fraternally he is' a member of the Sons of Temperance and the Orangemen. of which latter he is Provincial Grand Master.
