Mutch, was a native of Scotland and was a British soldier during the American War for Independence, at the close of which he emigrated to Prince Edward Island and lo- cated in Lot 48, where he followed farming through life. He was twice married and was the father of three children, Robert, Alex- ander and James. The latter, grandfather of the subject, was born in Lot 48, and was educated there and followed farming throughout his life. He was a Liberal in politics and a member of the Methodist church. He married a Miss Farquharson, and to them were born the following chil- dren: Robert; William ; James. father of the subject; Solomon; Frances Ellen, the wife of David Auld, Covehead; Sophia. the wife of George Mason, Clifton; Priscilla. the wife of a Mr. Emery, of Montague; Mar- garet, the wife of George Clarke, of Clarke- town; Matilda, wife of John Clarke, Clarke- town, and Mary Jane, the wife of Lauchlan McMillan, Covehead. James Mutch, sub- ject’s father, was born in Mount Herbert. Lot 48, September 22, 1825, and was there educated. In his active years he followed the exampleset him by his father and grand- father and successfuly tilled the soil. trice E., at home. James Mutch died on June 26, 1901, and his wife on May 13, 1904.

Robert P. Mutch attended the district schools of Mount Herbert and was early taught the secrets of successful agriculture, which line of work he has followed through- out life. He is ’the owner of two hundred and twelve acres of finely located land in Lot 48, one hundred and seventy of which are under cultivation and which have been well improved by the subject and his father. The place is adorned by a neat and conve- nient residence. commodious and well ar- ranged barns and well kept fences and by the other improvements which go to make up a well ordered and up-to—date farm. Mr. Mutch gives proper attention to the rotation of crops and other points which contribute to the success of agriculture, giving special attention to dairying; and he occupies an enviable standing in his locality. In reli- gion he is a member of the Methodist church, of which he is secretary and trus— tee. In politics he is a Liberal and for sev- eral years served as tax collector and deputy returning officer at elections. His fraternal relations are with the Sons of Temperance and the Canadian Order of Foresters. On June 19, 1899, Mr. Mutch married Miss Ida Maud Toombs, a daughter of \Villiam Toombs, of North Rustico, and they have three children: James \Vemlell, Mildred Beatrice and Elsie Isabel.
