Island, it would soon have developed into a large city. For its natural advantages are many. It has a splendid situation with a fine harbour. There is depth of water for large ships, free from rocks or shoals. There are branch rivers where extra ships can anchor, protected from the wind and sea. The land is fertile and the scenery superb.

If Georgetown were the capital . . . It seems hard to imagine. There the city could sit in peace with one eye on the broad Atlantic, and the other on her background of agricultural fields. If Georgetown were the capital . . . Instead of that, a tiny village lifts its drowsy head, inquires sleepily if any- thing has been going on while she has been taking her nap, and soon is nodding again.
