Sometimes people played jokes or tricks by dressing up in white and feigning themselves ghosts. Some mistook natural objects for ghosts or supposed they were ghosts. There was a story about a haunted house, where people saw ghosts; No one would stay in it at night. A young man laid a wager, or bet, that he would stay in it a night. He took his revolver to bed with him. It was a clear night, so he could see about the room. After getting into bed he took a loo-k at the foot of the bed; he saw something white peeping up at his feet; every time he looked he saw it; this made him nervous, but he did not get upto investigate what it was.
