was replaced on the same site by a large frame structure plastered within. There was no tower. It was later found inadequate to accommodate the vast throng that gathered to hear their beloved pastor, so the building was sold to Duncan MacDonald, a nephew of Rev. MacDonald.

In 1864, the year of the meeting of the Father's of Confederation, a new Church was erected at Orwell Head. It was also built by Rev. MacDonald and his followers. The dimensions were 62 feet by 42 feet, with a tall tower and taller spire which was built on the ground and hoisted to position on the tower. There was a gallery at both ends and at one side.

On July 7, 1886, the Orwell Head Church of Scotland was received into the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Rev. Donald Ban MacLeod joined as the first Presbyterian minister in December, 1886. After a 12 year stay, he was called to Zion Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown, but later returned to serve Orwell Head from 1908 to 1913. Rev. MacLeod, an Orwell native, was held in

congregation——a man of broad tolerance.

It is interesting to note that at the annual meeting of December 12, 1891, it was decided to by an organ. It was installed the following spring, but not without opposition. At the annual meeting in 1892, the introduction of the Presbyterian hymnal was discussed but no vote taken due tin. Two years later, however, it was introduced without opposition.

On December 22, 1924, the Pres>yterian Congregation of Orwell
