Sources of information for this presentation were Louise Smith

(newspaper, October 15, 1936), Bertha Brown, Mertie Sanderson, and a variety of previous records.

The first Methodist services were held in the Pownal area beginning in 1801—1804. According to the record book of the Pownal Charge, Millview became part of the Pownal circuit in 1846. In earlier years, people often met in homes and held Sunday School classes. In 1857, services were first held in millview and plans began for a church building which was built in 1861. On August 27, 1861, the following trustees were named to the New Chapel at Vernon River North: Robert Wood, Thomas Sheidow, Joseph Lane, John Doherty, and Peter Bourke. This church was then known as Vernon River North until 1905. A new church was built at Millview by the Methodists in 1873. There was no cemetery in Millview, as the one in Pownal served both communities.

In 1917, Millview Church had 37 children registered in Sunday School. On August 31, 1921, it was decided to have a Teacher's Training class to be held every second Thursday.
