Saw Mill Ervin Robertson began his career as a miller by sawing the lumber he needed for various purposes on a hand bench. In 1939 he and his father, Lester, sawed the material needed for Ervin's modern house in this manner. The first part of his present up—to—date mill was erected in 1962 and an extension was built in 1970. It is powered by diesel. Before purchasing the diesel his sawing was done with the use of car engines, tractors and a John Deere semi-diesel from Seldon MacLean's mill. Fewer Saw Mills In the early 1890's there were 172 mills in the province and now only about 50. Loss of Dragger The dragger, Gloria Mae, came ashore at Bothwell Beach in a heavy wind and rain storm around 2 a.m. on December 7, 1962. The owner and captain was Mike Keus Jr. With him were Lee Jenkins and George Jackson.
