Shoemaker's Spring
A shoemaker lived by the south side of Basin Head Pond not too far from the road bridge. There was a spring near by and it became known as "Shoemaker's Spring".
Invention of Vice—Grips
Henry Pope, Chepstow, invented the vice—grip but in place of contacting the proper authorities in an effort to obtain a patent he dealt directly with a company. This company informed him there was something not right about his plan. They offered him $500 for his invention, kept his plan for the vice grips and used their own patent.
