service till 1962.

Apart from the fun Elton got from flying, he found his plane a valuable adjunct to farming, and used it to fly in everything from a seven—day—old calf to groceries and household supplies for his family.

Elton sold his plane in 1962 and discontinued the service; which he had so capably rendered, thus ending a flying career of more than 4700 hours.

Elton also operated a radio shop since 1934 and since the:1 has started a television business which consumes most of his time.

SPORTS

Between 1910 and 1930 a popular winter sport on South West River was horse racing. Spectators from far and near came to watch the horses, some skating and others with horse and cutter. Dusty miller, owned by George Woodside is remembered by older residents, and Queen Catherine, own by Gavin Harding won many races. She was a little mare, and one of her tiny shoes, which was gilded and adorned with a. pink bow of ribbon is still in the home near where the blacksmith shop stood.
