matter from persons residing along the route, and any of those who were not within 14 mue °f a Post Office, were eligible to have their mail delivered at their gate. Philip Foy and his son, Allie, were the first Couriers, and were succeeded by F. A. Wotton . It is interesting to note that Mr. Wotton had the first Motor Vehicle in this vicinity, being allowed the privilege of driving a Car for carrying mail, not only three days a week, as was the custom at first, but every day. He was succeeded by Russel Cairns , and later by our present mail courier, Walter Trowsdale . , No. 1, was inagugurated on January 1, 1912, the Contractor being Robert R. Reid , who served until 1919, when John H. Parker succeeded him, giving faithful service for twenty-eight years. Howard Parker , a son of John H., is the present mail driver on this route, having driven for eight years. MEDICAL DOCTORS — D.D.S. and D.V.S. Our earliest Medical Practitioner was Dr. Robert Potts , a native of Scotland , who emigrated to this country between 1840 and 1845 and began his practice in Charlottetown . He was called to Crapaud in 1847 to attend men who had been injured during the building of Kelly's Cross Church, and, being pleased with the lay of the country, settled in Cra¬ paud, where he practised for some time before moving to Tryon . Next, came Dr. Tremaine , followed by:— Drs. McAlpine, Covey, Robertson, Bovyer, Houston, Tidmarsh , and our present Doctor, Peter M. MacDonald . Dr. H. W. Robertson spent about thirty years of his life in Crapaud , being well liked by all classes of people. His family, consisting of three sons and one daughter, were all born in this community. He practiced here until his death in 1906. Dr. N. R. Bovyer served this section faithfully for over fifty years, settling here in 1900. Much to the regret of his many friends and ac¬ quaintances, he suffered a serious accident in October, 1952, while still actively engaged in Medicine. At present he is residing in Charlottetown . Dr. J. C. Houston practised here for about ten years, locating here in 1905. After his departure to Charlottetown , Dr. Bovyer attended to his extensive practice alone until 1946, when Dr. William Tidmarsh located here, leaving to practice in Bedeque in 1948. In 1953, Dr. Peter MacDonald graduated from Dalhousie University, interned for one year in St. John and Fredericton , and, on June 1, 1953, opened an office in Crapaud . He has built up a large practice, and his friends and acquaintances hope that he may remain with us for many years to come. Dr. MacDonald is quite an asset to any community. Besides his Med¬ ical training, he is a musician of no mean ability, his services being much in demand at public gatherings. He trained a Community Choir, con¬ sisting of voices from Tryon , Crapaud , and vicinity, in Choral Services, these being repeated in other Churches in the surrounding area. . -4f 105 ))~
