A room adjacent to Dr. Buvyer’s Office was fitted up, and a sewing machine and other equipment installed. Many articles of clothing were made for the Red Cross, and much knitting was done. One member, Mrs. Donald MacLean, was able to knit one hundred pairs of men’s socks, which were sent to our Canadian boys and distributed by the Red Cross.

This was a very worthy effort, and those taking part were amply repaid, when they heard of the comfort and cheer their kindly donations had brought to our men overseas, and to those who were made destitute.- by the ravages of war.

SECOND WORLD WAR During the Second World War (1939-1945), under the supervision: of the Crapaud Women’s Institute, many articles, such as: quilts, child- ren’s suits, socks, sweaters, etc., were made and assembled for the Red

Cross. Once again, Mrs. Donald MacLean knitted fifty pairs of socks, and her work was put on display at Toronto Red Cross Headquarters as a

sample of good and required knitting.

Miss Muriel MacLean, R.N., conducted First-Aid Classes, which were greatly appreciated, but, unfortunately, she was called away before the course was finished. Boxes were packed for the boys overseas at regular intervals, and a large number of quilts were made for refugees and displaced persons, after the war was over.
