In January 1983, during a sleet storm, the Church spire was set on fire when an electric light pole fell on it. A passing motorist noticed the fire and alerted Rector, Rev. Brian Hutchins, and it was quickly put out by the local fire department with very ‘ little damage done. 1
In the summer of '86 paving was done around the Church and ' the Rectory, also a large parking lot. In '87 the Rectory received ; ' a face-lift when vinyl siding was put on it and new storm windows ' installed. i

In '89 the Church was painted and some minor repairs done. The old horse shed is still standing. The members of the A.C.W. use , part of it as a Thrift Shop during the summer months. The remain- 1 * der is used for storage and a garage. Some decision will have to be i made soon as to how much longer this building can, or should, be maintained. It is, most probably, the only one of its kind still % standing, having seen many years of use in the days gone by.

And so the Parish of Crapaud still exists today in much the same manner as it always did--a monument to the history of hard— working faithful parishioners. The Church's A.C.W. group remains very active contributing greatly to the needs and care of the Church. It is only fair to remember the Rectors and parishioners of years gone by, who worked so hard to establish and maintain the Parish of ‘Crapaud. Resourses, materially, were very slim and often what had , been accomplished was allowed to decay, but these people had great i faith in God, in their Rector, and themselves, and it is to them that the people of the Parish of Crapaud owe the fine Church of St. John's where they worship today.

In October 1971, this property was sold to the Sherwood Develop- ment Ltd., with Harry McLaughlin and Robert Dawson shareholders. The large house was re-sold to The South Shore Realty Co. with Barry Dawson and David MacKay shareholders. They proceeded immediately to convert i it into an Apartment House. A modern heating system was installed and 1 seven comfortable apartments made, each equipped with a fridge, stove, x and private bathroom. Room was also found for a laundry room with automatic washer and dryer. (We expect to see some interesting things done with the rest of the property in the future).
